A READING GUIDE

Ocean stewardship

Beach patrols, fishing practices and community learning: meet the people doing the work.

A curated reading guide

The work of caring for the sea.

Ocean stewardship takes many forms along the Western Indian Ocean’s shores. In Kenya, a volunteer records turtle nests, an entrepreneur considers the nets he uses, and communities share experience of managing mangroves and fisheries. In Réunion, fishers work with turtle specialists to limit accidental catches. These reports bring the practical choices into view, alongside the training, local knowledge and cooperation that support them.
